People in the United States of America celebrate Flag Day during June 14 to commemorate their country’s adoption of the flag. It started as early as 1885 (but without an official date)by Bernard J. Cigrand, a grade school teacher in Wisconsin, held the first formal observance of Flag Day at the Stony Hill School. From then on, Cigrand toured around the country to promote patriotism and respect to the American flag.
By having an annual Flag Day, people get to know the importance of the sovereignty of a country and people being united by their flag. This is to promote patriotism to younger generations so they will learn at an early age how blessed they are living in a free country.
