In the United States, people celebrate Flag Day on June 14 every year. This is to commemorate the U.S flag adoption by the Second Continental Congress’ resolution on June 14, 1977. President Woodrow Wilson announced to officially establish Flag Day to be celebrated on June 14 in 1916. It was only on August 3, 1946, that the Act of Congress established National Flag Day.
Though this is not one of the official federal holidays, some states, such as New York, designate a state holiday on the second Sunday of June. Known states such as Wisconsin and Massachusetts hold an annual Flag Day parade since 1950 and 1952 respectively. Most homes and business establishments put up an American flag during June to show respect.
