What is the difference between Jealousy and Envy?

Jealousy and envy are two English words that have almost the same meaning. Most people even use the words interchangeably. Both words refer to a strong desire in someone to possess what belongs to someone else. It might be very difficult to differentiate between jealousy and envy. However, it is believed that, jealousy, most times is not always negative, because the two words have more of negative connotation than positive ones. And in the same vein, jealousy has little positive connotation than envy.

Jealousy is an emotional state of mind; in which someone is doing everything to have or possess something that belongs to someone else. Jealousy, if not properly managed can lead to hatred towards the other person. All these explanations about jealously are sometimes done in love. Envy, on the other hand, is a resentful desire of something possessed by another person. An envious person can go to any length in a bid to get what he desires in others.
