These two breeds of small dogs are the first pets in the Tibetan region. The main difference is in the color of these two breeds. These two dogs have similar characteristics in the sense that they are sociable and lovable animals. Nevertheless, it is quite easy to distinguish between the black and the fawn pugs. The fawn pugs have yellowish-brown color; it has black markings around its ears that eventually cover its face.

Fawn pugs have black strips on the back, known as a trace that runs down the center of their backs. While the black pug, on the other hand, is entirely black; they have no trace on their back or masked face. Pug is a small dog of an ancient breed originating in China, having a snub nose, wrinkled face, squarish body, short smooth hair, and curled tail. Fawn pugs and black pugs are the two common examples of pugs. The two types of pug are small in nature. However, the differences between them are seen in the area of color. They don't have the same color, even the fact that, one of the two types of pugs is called black pugs suggests they do not have the same color.

Black pugs are totally black, while fawn pugs are not totally black, they seem to have a characteristic yellowish-brown color around them. Fawn pugs usually have a kind of special black spot on their fore-heads. There's also a trace of black line which extends to the center of its back. Black pugs do not have all these since they are entirely black.
