Hyperglycaemia is a state of having high blood sugar. This is seen in people with diabetes mellitus. Blood sugar higher than 7.0mmol/L (126 mg/dl) when fasting is considered high blood sugar. If this continues for an extended period, it can cause damages to organs of the body. Organs most commonly affected are the kidneys, blood vessels, the heart, and the eyes.
