What is the difference between Doric and Ionic?

Doric and Ionic are two types of Greek architecture. Doric is the simplest, oldest, and the most massive of the Greek orders. The shaft of Doric order is sculpted with concave curves known as flutes. Doric order does not have a base.

The capitals of Doric order are plain which has round sections around the bottom. Ionic is the second other to be developed. It is named Iconic because it was established in the Ionian Islands. Ionic order was used for smaller buildings. Ionic has a base. It has a much slender and taller column.

Doric and Ionic are also known as the two orders of architecture that originated in Greece. The Doric is known to be stocky, and the columns are expected to be huge. They may look like they do not have any base because since the columns are large enough, they can carry the whole structure.

The Ionic is the second order of architecture that became popular after doric. There are some similarities in terms of appearance, but the main difference has to be the base that the Doric does not have that the ionic has. Remember that these are just two of the structures that made some changes with architecture in general.
