Start connections are needed so that the power transmission network can be used for long distances. Delta connection is better used for connections between shorter distances. In a star connection, the three branches are connected to just one point.
The network that it will create will look similar to a star hence its name. The delta connection also comes with three branches, but instead of a star, the shape that it will form will look similar to a closed-loop. In a star connection, the start and the end of the loop are still connected while in the Delta loop, the start and the term can be seen in opposite directions.
Star connection and delta connection are a bit different from each other. Star connection has to do with the joining of three branches of network so that their terminals meet at a point, through this, there is an easy flow of current to the center point. While delta connection has to do with the joining together of three branches of network so that their terminals form what looks like a closed loop.
In star connection, the connection is made in such a that only the identical ends of the three terminals are connected, which means you are connecting the same starting points of the three coils together and the same thing is done to the finishing ends. Delta connection on the other hand, makes its connection by joining the finishing points of the three terminals with the starting points of the three coils. There is something called neutral point in star connection, while there is no neutral point in delta connection.
