But the major difference between the two words lies in the usage and the exact meaning of each word. Expect is a verb which means to look forward to something that we believe is about to happen or come through. It also means to await an event with some confidence.

Wait is also a verb and it means to patiently assume a position or stay somewhere with the hope that something we have been anticipating for will happen very soon. For example: I am going to wait till I get paid. It also means you have decided not to do some things until a certain condition is met. For example: I will wait till I see my lawyer before I can discuss the issue.
