Are Memorial day and Veterans day same?

Memorial Day and Veterans Day are two different things. They are not the same in terms of their significance and purpose. Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States which affords the Americans the opportunity to pay tribute to their soldiers who died during the Civil War and those who died while serving the country.

Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday in May which usually marks the beginning of the summer vacation in the United States and was originally known as Decoration Day. While Veterans Day is meant to celebrate and honor the service of the United States military veterans. Veterans Day was formally known as armistice day and it is usually observed on November 11. The two holidays are not the same in that one celebrates those who died while serving in the military and the latter honors the military veterans in the United States
