What is a Memorial day and why is it celebrated?

Memorial Day is a holiday in the United States. It was initially celebrated on May 30th, but now it is celebrated on the last Monday in May, regardless of the date. The day may also be referred to as Decoration Day. The purpose of the day is to honor those people who fought for our country and paid the ultimate sacrifice of their lives.

Most people have Memorial Day off, so they see the day as the beginning of summer. They enjoy cookouts and a day at the beach. Though everyone should enjoy their day off, Memorial Day should be used to remember the fallen.

Memorial Day is usually observed by Americans on the last Monday in the month of May, which means Americans would enjoy three days holiday i.e from Saturday to Monday. Although in the past, people observed the holiday on May 30.

One interesting thing about the Memorial Day is that, it marks the beginning of the summer vacation season in the United States. The reason why Americans celebrate Memorial Day is for them to remember and honor those who had offered their selfless and ultimate service and paid the supreme price in the course of their activities in the United States Armed Forces. Those who died during the Civil War are also remembered and honored during Memorial Day.
