The east coast and the west coast are used to describe the different states that are part of the United States of America. The USA is actually a very big country. Some of its lands are near the Pacific Ocean while the other part is near the Atlantic Ocean. When people are visiting the country for the first time, they usually become surprised by the differences in culture between the two coasts.

The West Coast is the area where people would like to be when they want to become more laid back and relax a bit. In the East Coast, people are more in a hurry and they would like to do as much as work as they can as they may equate this to success.

The East Coast refers to the easternmost states which stretch from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to Canada in the north. The East coast is also known as the Eastern Seaboard. About 36 percent of the U.S. population resides in the East Coast states. The states of the East coast include Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.

The West coast refers to the westernmost coastal states touching the Pacific Ocean. It is also referred to as the Pacific Coast. About 17 percent of the U.S. population resides in the West Coast states. The states in this coast include California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii.
