It can be confusing to know the actual difference between hypertrophy and hyperplasia. Hyperplasia means that there is an increase in the number of cells that are available in a certain area. This is definitely different from hypertrophy which simply means that there is an increase in the size of a cell. Hypertrophy may happen when a person works out constantly.

The muscles will also become bigger which is the usual goal of people who work out. Hyperplasia may involve an increase in the number of muscle fibers that are available in a certain area. The more muscle fibers that will be worked out the better for those who are trying to improve the way that their bodies look.
