The difference between a courier and cargo has to do with what they are. A courier is a person who carries packages and other things that are mailed or need to be sent from one person and received by another person. A mailman is like a courier.
Cargo is the package that is being sent. However, cargo is usually enormous stuff that is sent. It is usually sent on a plane or barge. The courier may bring this cargo to the right person or company to receive it. However, a courier may also bring messages to other people in person. Cargo is not a person and the courier is not the package or items that are being mailed from one person to another.

The term courier and cargo are related to the transportation of goods from one place to another. But these two terms are not the same. A courier is also known as messenger service. It refers to a person or an organization that delivers messages. Most couriers accept packages that are 150 lbs or less. Couriers often operate locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
With courier, the package can continuously be tracked. A cargo also called freight. The services are often carried out by businesses. It is usually used for large shipments that are placed in containers. This service is not as quick as the courier service. The goods are transported through: trucks, train and mostly through ships.
