Down Syndrome is a disorder that is caused by the person’s genetics. It is actually caused when the person has all or a part of the chromosome 21. It is the third copy of it. The person who has Down Syndrome will grow slowly. There also may be some intellectual problems or delays. There are certain facial features that can allow people to recognize if a person has Down Syndrome.

There are some ways that people can lessen the risk of having a baby with Down Syndrome. Some of the risks include having babies later in life or being an older mother, and having a child already with Down Syndrome. There are about 5.4 million people in the world that have Down Syndrome.
