If archaeologists make a discovery, they, of course, get paid. But, they only get paid the salary or hourly wage they make or whatever their pay is based on. They do not get paid for treasures they dig up, per say. Neither do they get to keep those treasures or findings. The past, as they say, belongs to everyone. Archaeologist realize this fact before they ever go out on a dig so it comes as no surprise. Everything an archaeologist finds and discovers is destined to be recorded.
Archaeologists do'nt get to keep one single thing that they find. I am sure some would like to have a relic or a treasure but such is not the nature of the field. It is forbidden and always will be. The treasures, the findings, and all of the past history belong to the entire world for which the public is grateful for. We get to see the pieces in museums and learn about them and see them that way.
