An ethernet works by way of a router in which it is connected to. The network's router actually serves as a bridge to connect it to the Internet. The router connects to the modem by way of wire and plugin, or cable. The router then carries the Internet signal including the sending and receiving of data packet requests which in turn are then routing to the correlating computers that are on the given network.
The concept of Ethernet has been around for a long time and was once considered the premium way to connect to the internet but when wireless came along, it was so convenient and widespread, it replaced the popularity of the ethernet. The ethernet is still believed to be superior by many due to speed and reliability and security as well.
