Runt frames are usually caused by collisions. They are Ethernet frames which are less than the minimum length that is 64 bytes. Undersized frames can cause noises and disruption. It is one of the most common, most problematic errors that are seen on ethernets. It is smaller whereas a giant frame can be problematic in that it is larger. Jam frames are another thing altogether.
While these things can seem complicated, you can google the problem and you'll begin to figure it out based upon the results such as runt frames have a certain set of issues. It is the first step in solving the problem, diagnosing the issue at hand so it turns out making more sense than you'd think it would.
