It is definitely not safe for women to travel alone in Sri Lanka. To do so would be stupid, actually. It isn't even safe for groups of people to travel in Sri Lanka at present so for anyone, especially a woman, to travel alone would not be advised. Warnings have been issued about traveling to the country in general.

Some people ignore the warnings and travel there anyway but they could be in grave danger as terrorism is on the rise there and is a concern of safety. Women have issues in the country as far as safety goes even when terrorism isn't a part of the picture so now that it is a problem, don't travel alone there if you are a female of any age.
