The most followed religion in Bahrain is Islam. This is because the country itself is a Muslim country for many centuries now. Islam which is the state religion of Bahrain represent more than 80 percent of the country total population. The remaining less than 20 percent is for the foreigners and immigrants in the country. Even some immigrants are Muslims.
The population of other religions like Christianity is very low. Bahrain's constitution supports religious freedom; citizens are free to practice whatever religion they want. Christians in the country can practice their faith openly. The two branches of Islam in the country are, Sunni and Shi'i. Sunni is the most acceptable religion in the country. This type of Islamic religion is being practiced by the elite.
Shi'i on the other hand is being practiced by the poor in the country, this is due to the fact the religion is more prominent in the villages.
