There are plans already for the removal of defunct Envisat together with other dead satellites so as to reduce the chances of Kessler syndrome. The removal of large junk of dead satellites and defunct Envisat which is the largest in the world would reduce the possibility of more collisions which can lead to Kessler syndrome. The European Space Agencies are already on a project after they have agreed to removal some Envisat in the space.
They are working on a technique which involves the use of a technology called Harpoon. The technology is being designed to remove the Envisat which is already dead in the space after 10 years of service. The Harpoon is designed to operate in this way, the spacecraft carrying the Harpoon would attach itself to its target using the harpoon and then use its hook to drag Envisat into Earth's atmosphere. After this, the spacecraft will be controlled into a safer place.
