Bulgaria is still a poor country even after joining the European Union. Bulgaria has not made adequate use of the opportunity it stands to have after it had joined the European Union. Other countries who have joined the European Union after Bulgaria are now doing great economically. Its GDP per capita when compared to other members of the EU is considerably low.
Also the unemployment rate in the country is still high. One of the factors that can make a country to be poor is when there is high unemployment rate, automatically getting a job will be very hard and to earn a living will be very difficult. There is also something called ''working poor''class of people, these people are actually employed but their salary is not enough to lift them from being poor. The reason for this can be as a result of delays and even decreases in salaries. Most industries in Bulgaria are not employing as they need to.
