Wave election is a political term in the United States especially during election period. The term is majorly used to describe an election outcome or cycle in which a political party enjoyed a landslide victory in an election. A party with the highest number of elected members in the US House of representatives or US Senate election would said to have enjoyed a wave election.
There is no specific number of seats that must be won before an election can be described as wave, once a political party pull more members than the opposition in an election, the election can be regarded as wave. There are so many factors that can influence a significant election gain for a political party.
The popularity of the sitting president can influence the US Senate or House of representatives’ election, as a result, the party from which the president is produced will be favored. Another factors are; the number of open seats and the success or failure of a major policy initiative.
