The United States congress is the legislative arm of the federal government and it contains two houses, the upper chamber known as senate and the lower chamber known as House of representatives. The Senate is made up of 100 house members, this is a figure below that of house of representatives because two senators would be elected in a state.
The Senate usually spends 6 years as a single term before going for another election. A person seeking to be elected as a senator must meet some requirements or criteria before he can contest in the election. The criteria for senate is a little bit higher than the ones for house of representatives. A person contesting as a senator must be a citizen of the United States for at least the past 9 years.
The second criterion is that; the person must be at least 30 years of old. Finally, the person must be inhabitants of the states they seek to represent at the time of their election.
