Switzerland can be an expensive country to visit and living there can be expensive too. But, it can also be done cheaply if you set your mind to making it more economical. The most economical places to live are in urban areas away from the city. Uri is said to be perhaps the cheapest and Glarus comes in as a close second.
Appenzell and Innerrhoden have been known to sport good rates, at least compared to other places in Switzerland. Obwalden and Thurgau are worth checking into too. If you want to live in the city, though, you'll have to get creative and find a roommate or a rooming house to live in if you want to live cheaply.
