Tax rates are outrageous in California. Californians are among the highest tax payers in the entire nation. But...why? For one thing, it is an attempt to pay back some of what the state was in debt for...but, that's certainly not all there is to it. Congress had the great diea of allocating money for state programs and they came by way of block grants. The states were entitled to the same amount, no matter their size. That boils down to larger states like California having to have the same as a small state.
To make up for this, they have to raise taxes and that they did! They also vote for tax allocations and are liberal and vote things in without really taking into account what it will cost those who live there. They are more in it because it's a good cause rather than it being a smart financial move for the citizens of the state.
