The oldest novel of all times is The Book of the Kells. It was written in 800 AD. It is a masterpiece for its time and is the most famous old book and the oldest one too. It is a glamorous tale of Ireland and is very elaborate for the days it was written, during the early Middle Ages. The original book is lovingly displayed in the Trinity College Library. It has 680 pages and all but two of the pages are decorated with ornamental type drawings.

It was written as a collaboration between scribes and artists, working side by side. They were Columbian monks and they all lived in an Iona monastery on the west coast of Scotland which was founded in the sixth century. The book is kept under low lighting in the library where 2 pages at a time are displayed.
