Poverty in the world is measured by figuring the lack of a minimum income which is necessary to provide for meeting one's basic needs. This is called the consumption level. When measured in 2005, 20% of the rich people in the world made 75% of the money made in the world. The same is practically true today but that was a shocking fact when the numbers were tallied.
The poorest tend to make about 5% of the money made in the whole world. Many are for spreading that wealth around which sounds great, but so did Communism, at first. The fact of the matter is that the majority of those who make the most money are true go-getters and have worked hard for their money whether it was intellectually or physically.
Some inherit it but that right was worked for by the person who willed it to them. It is a common misconception that only rich kids have a chance. Yes, the rich can afford college for their kids but their are scholarships for those who excell in sports or accedemics and for those who have a low income. Their are grants too. So, let's put that myth to rest.
