Poverty has increased in the US that there are more people. So, if there are more people who can be poor, usually there are more people who are. But, there is also a such thing as an average. Actually, according to statistics, poverty has dropped in the past 3 years within the United States.
That is, according to the average of people. But, if there are 10 people and half are poor, that's one half of the population. If there are 15 poor people out of 50, the percent has dropped but there are still more poor people, just more people to count which automatically makes the percent lower.
Things are being done, however, to stop poverty like providing jobs and of course, welfare checks. The poor will always be with us, it's just how many of them there are that matters.
