The phrase is usually written at the back of a vehicle very boldly. It is not for decoration but it is aimed at informing the driver of a vehicle coming from behind to try to horn so that he would be aware someone is planning to overtake his vehicle.

The main idea about this phrase on vehicles is to reduce accidents that are usually a result of reckless driving on the road. But we all know how people can be playful with some things, the phrase is no longer being used in India because it was turning into noise pollution.

Have you ever seen something like ''Horn Ok Please'' painted on commercial vehicle like buses, trucks, articulated vehicles and you wondered what might be the meaning. 'Horn Ok please' is simply a phrase telling the driver of a car coming behind another vehicle to horn if he decides to overtake. This will help and send a message to the driver of a vehicle with 'Horn ok please' that a vehicle behind want to overtake.

The expression has no origin and it is mostly found on Indian vehicles. However the Indian government has banned the use or painting of 'Horn Ok please' on vehicles with the explanation that it encourages drivers and even motorcycle riders to horn unnecessarily on the road which might result to noise pollution, the situation that might result to accident on the road. And it is a punishable offence to commit because there is a law guiding that.

This is a type of phrase that is normally placed on different commercial vehicles such as trucks, taxis, and buses in India. The meaning of this is to let the driver of the commercial vehicle know that another vehicle wishes to overtake by honking the horn. This will make sure that potential accidents can be reduced.

There are a lot of people who get into accidents because they suddenly decide that they have to overtake without checking if the driver in front of them will allow them to overtake especially if there are some vehicles that are coming from the opposite lane. By following what is required, accidents may be avoided.
