There are some diseases that have been completely eradicated throughout history. Some, due to vaccination and some just disappear due to natural reasons or just because of the way the world turns. New ones crop up as well.

Smallpox has been eradicated due to vaccines as having Rinderpest, Poliomyelitis (polio), Yaws, Dracunculiasis, Malaria, Hookworm and Lymphatic filariasis. Some countries still have Malaria but that may be because they don't vaccinate. If you are going to a country which still has a problem, you will need a vaccination.

Vaccination, which was discovered 200 years ago by a man named Edward Jenner is a significant event that has saved billions and trillions of lives. The following are diseases that have been wiped out thanks to vaccines. First, polio is not even a blip on the radar of anyone alive today. Years ago, polio was a dreaded childhood illness that would cripple children and put them in log machines. Tetanus is an infection that is not common at all anymore.

Rabies, yellow fever, measles, and the mumps are all deadly, and all have been eradicated through vaccinations. Rabies has been eliminated in both humans and domesticated animals in the United States through regular vaccine shots. Smallpox has also been eliminated through vaccine as well. In a side note, currently there have been outbreaks of mumps among college students; however, the severity and side effects of mumps tend to be less in those who have been vaccinated than those who have not.
