While a lot of countries in some parts of the world are still battling with a low literacy rate, the literacy rate of New Zealand since 2007 has not changed. The literacy rate has always been around 99.0%. This percentage refers to the population of people starting from age 15 who can efficiently write and read with a level of understanding. It also includes a level of knowledge in simple mathematical operations. The adult literacy rate of New Zealand means a greater percentage of New Zealanders can read and write properly.

Most times, the literacy rate of a particular country represents the quality of education in such a country. The huge percentage of literate people in New Zealand can be attributed to the quality of education in the country and their excellent methods of teaching. As a result of this, New Zealand is now ranked high in the list of countries with high literacy rate.
