Fraud may be seen as a way of using deception, lies and falsehood on someone in a bid to get some benefits in return whether monetary or other types of benefits. The United States law is very strict on those who see defrauding people as a way of life.
Some types of fraud are criminal in nature while some types of fraud can be called civil wrong, this type of fraud allow anybody who has been defrauded to file a civil lawsuit against whoever defrauded him. Severe punishments are available for anyone found guilty of fraud, but effort must be made to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt so there would be fairness in judgment.
For example, a fraud case that is criminal in nature attracts both fines and even jail term for the culprit depending on the level of fraud committed. Civil types of fraud attracts only punishment by fines.
