Apparently, the deep dish pizza was invented in Chicago in 1943. Fancy that - just when all of Europe was on starvation rations! It is a delicious combination of tomato and creamy melted cheese and all on a very buttery base. The Twinkie is also a Chicagan invention from back in 1930. This is a spongy yellow cake snack filled with vanilla cream, and in some cases, then deep fried.
The firm went out of business and was later brought back by another concern so it may not survive forever. Then there's Wrigley's gum, the most famous internationally but you might say, not a food. Lastly the Chicagan hot dog, always beef and filled with vegetables too.
