Why are crime rates in Detroit so high?

Detroit's crime rate is high, but not like the highest in the world. Unfortunately, violent crime rates were double recorded because of an out of date computer system which is now being rectified.

The city's violent crime is high, but its suburban area is below the national average. It is motor theft and violations that is particularly problematic in Detroit. Don't drive there if you want to be ultra careful, and use taxis.
