Gender gap according to economists, is the systematic differences in the returns that male and female get in the labor market. This can also be called gender pay gap or gender wage gap. In Canada the gender pay gap between men and women has decreased at about 21% since 1981, with most of the decrease occurring in 2011.
Pay difference between men and women has become a persistent phenomenon. For example, according to labor force survey, it found out that for every $1 earned by a man, there is an equivalent $0.87 earned by a woman, this is calculated using average hourly wages. What this also means is that men at executive position earn appropriately $950,000 annually more than women in similar position.
Several attempts have been made by women to ensure there is an equal pay between them and their men. This is because according to them, the inequality or gender pay gap is causing poverty among women and also lack of quality health care.
