The CCR5 gene is a fairly recent discovery which is thought to be the cure for AIDS, in a sense. The new discovery of CCR5 genetic polymorphisms has to do with with HIV-resistance and is being researche by disease control organizations and is actually encouraged the research. CCR5 is the culprit in the entry and in the spread of AIDS or at least the HIV virus. By knowing more about it, it is thought the disease can be eliminated. This is a prime example of genetic research and development where the application thereof could be useful in saving lives.
Using this research could be helpful in making those who are exposed not come down with the disease. It would basically give them immunity which is good. Is it taking science too far? If you have been exposed to HIV or have AIDS, you probably don't think so.
