Did Obama ever face discrimination due to his black color?

I don't personally consider Barack can be described as black although his genetic mix is categorised as African American. His colour is dark, and those with racial axes to grind no doubt used facial hue as one insult to throw.

His wife is open about the discrimination black people suffer and regards it as an irritation that can't be avoided. She said Barack had his share of troubles catching cabs before becoming president and that he'd been assumed to be a waiter rather than a guest at dinners. This doesn't happen in the UK, btw!
