The SDI was known as the Strategic Defense Initiative. It was a plan by the United States under Ronald Reagan to establish a missile system in order to protect the United States. Fear grew during Reagan’s years as president regarding nuclear weapons. When countries started creating nuclear weapons, Reagan decided to do something about it. That is where this program began.
He wanted the Department of Defense to be in charge of this program and make these specific missiles to be launched so that they may intercept the weapons launched toward the United States so that they would not land on the United States. This would protect and save human life in the United States. This took place in 1984 and it dissolved in the next decade.
