Women are treated much better today than those before the 1970s when women were treated as property. They were not given the same amount of rights as others. However, with that said, the treatment of women is ranked as 52nd in the word in Austria out of one hundred forty-nine countries. Seventy-one percent of the women work in the work force compared to eighty percent of the men.
Even though the treatment has become the same over the years, but the pay has not. There is still inequality between men and women’s pay when doing the same job. According to the gender inequality index Austria ranks fourteenth. This is much better than the 52nd place according to the Global Gender Gap Index.
