There are many fish in the Amazon that are dangerous to humans. The danger is primarily when they feel threatened. Of course, there is no way for us to ensure that they are not threatened by our presence. Thus it is vital that we use all necessary caution.
The Arapaima fish are quite large and they are carnivorous. They are also known as pirarucu and paiche fish. They seem to have armored scales for their protection. They don't have any difficulty dwelling in waters infested with piranhas since they are quite powerful as predators. They feed on other fish and sometimes birds that come to the surface of the water. They not only take in air from their fills, they take in air directly from the surface. These Arapaima fish may be some of the most dangerous fish in the Amazon river.
