By the sheer volume of water, the Amazon is the largest in the world. No other river carries as much water within its banks as the Amazon river. But for long, the Nile has been considered the world's longest river. Somewhat recently, Brazilian scientists conducted a 14 day expedition to measure the actual length of the Amazon river and found it to be 105 kilometers longer than the Nile.
Of course this is till in dispute as the Nile has traditionally been considered to be the longest. What is unique about the Nile river is that it flows north through the north eastern part of Africa and flows into the Mediterranean sea.
As such both the Nile and the Amazon makes the claim that it is the largest. But now the dispute is about the length. If the Amazon is the longest, then by all calculations, it will be the largest and longest in every way.
