Anesthesia, in general, has become very safe because of advancements in treatment and the expert training of Anesthesiologists. Nonetheless, there are some possible side effects. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, itching, chills, and mental confusion for a few days after the application of anesthesia. Another common side effect is a sore throat from the use of a breathing tube.
Rarer side effects occur in specific patients with unique medical history. Elderly people, especially those who have a neurological condition such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s may experience temporary learning and memory problems because the brain might take a while to recover.
