An anesthesiologist has an important job. This is especially true with the application of general anesthesia. The anesthesiologist needs to administer enough to keep the patient from feeling any pain but also not enough to relax the muscles so much that the heart or breathing fail. For this reason, Anesthesiologists are paid quite handsomely at 208,000 per year. This is less than what some medical professionals make. Orthopedic surgeons make more than 500,000 per year. It is however more than what pediatricians and family practitioners make as well as more than those specializing in internal medicine. In anesthesiology, there are about 5,100 jobs and the unemployment rate for anesthesiologists is only 0.5% on average.
This makes sense, there are a lot of surgeries and invasive procedures that surgeons and physicians have to do which require anesthesia and most patients would rather not be in pain during the interval of their operation.
