Some would say that Bluebird was the best car of all time because of the exciting records it achieved. If we're looking at the ordinary driver, however, 'best' would have to be a combination of economy, reliability, comfort and design.
I doubt if there's a consensus on this combination of factors. In a recent survey, even the dull Toyota Prius did very well, but I'd reckon the Subaru Outback from Japan ticks the most boxes. Before they stopped producing, Rover cars were a well loved, comfortable, reliable line of cars. It does seem that our Eastern friends produce better cars than the West these days.
