Quality versions of the iconic burger are found in many restaurants across America, but some of the best burgers are made in Connecticut where the burger was originally invented. Texan barbeque is known for its exquisite meat and ribs. In the great plains, biscuits and gravy made with butter make a good breakfast. New York is known for its delicious bagels. Los Angeles is known for its Mexican food and has taqueria on every street almost, at least according to some accounts.
Americans have also made foods that are hybrids with other cuisines such as deep-dish pizza, an Italian-American combination, which is made with thick crust and is not for the faint of heart. Grits is also known in the south and is great with salt and pepper. The reigning American dessert is American pie, a mixture of sugar, apples, and pie crust.
The best American foods are found in diners and small towns or deep in big cities and far away from the touristy places as is also true of other countries.
