One of the masterminds behind operation mincemeat was Captain the Hon. Ewen Edward Samuel Montagu was born in London, England, on March 29, 1901.
He was a British judge, a naval intelligence officer, and a writer; he wrote the book. The man who never was (1956). He attended the Westminster School before becoming a machine gun instructor during the First World War.
He and Squadron leader Charles Cholmondeley planned the deception operation, which was the Operation Mincemeat, they dressed a corpse and put fake news of their plans to attack Greece.
The German got the news and headed for Greece while the British Army took out their real operation on Sicily. After the success of this operation, Edward was made the Military Division of the Order of the British Empire.
