People tend to clean their ears out way too often. They are actually doing more harm than good when cleaning with a swab. The earwax is being pushed back into the canal for the most part. Some professionals say that there is no need to clean the ear at all. That's because when one chews or moves their jaw, earwax comes unlodged and tends to the problem on its own. Still, that's not good enough for many who hate the feeling that there is wax in their ears. They can become itchy and even feel like water is in them.

If cleaning is going to be done, it is recommended that it be done only once or twice per month and that it be by way of an ear rinse rather than by the use of a swab. However, if a swab is used, it's important to use one only on the outside of the ear canal.
