The most influential book of Leo Tolstoy and the one that tops the list for most readers would be, War and Peace. While it was originally written in smaller installments, it was published as a singular volume in 1869. Centered around five noble families in Russia, the book concentrates on the French invasion of Russia, and the Napoleonic impact that was felt through the country. Russia was ruled by Tsars, and Napoleon had once held grand designs for the province. Although no longer influential or in power, the Napoleonic thoughts were still held by many.
War and Peace has been one of the most influential pieces of literature since it was released. Many have said that it is one book that every person should read, and try to gain the understanding that Tolstoy wanted to get across. The book has two main parts. The first half deals with the five families, and their thoughts and discourses. The second half is more narration and academic in a sense, from the author, and different works all compiled into one “novel.”
