While some embolisms do require surgery due to the severity of their nature or another medical reason, not all situations warrant such drastic measures. In some incidences, clots disappear on their own but that should never be counted on and should always be overseen by a physician. Coagulates are often effective enough to thin the blood and thus, dissolve the clot.

While some embolisms do require surgery due to the severity of their nature or another medical
thrombolytic are also administered sometimes. But, there are times that doesn't happen due to the size or another factor or the fact that a patient cannot handle anticoagulates and in those instances, surgery is a must. In the event that surgery to remove an embolism is necessary, modern technology is so advanced there is a great chance for a prompt and efficient removal of the embolism and a complete recovery prognosis.
