Embolisms are risky indeed. They can lead to a stroke if the clot travels to the brain or can lodge in the lung causing it to be difficult or impossible to breathe. Embolisms can be uncomfortable, painful, and even deadly. An embolism is a blood clot. Most begin in the legs or extremities and then travel upwards. They can do a lot of damage once they do travel into a major part of the body.

There are a number of ways that an embolism can be detected if one is suspected. It is imperative to speak to a physician if you believe you may have one, even if it is in your leg and isn't causiing much of a problem. There is always a chance it can dislodge and travel to your lungs or to your brain.
